Setting Strategic Goals

Have you ever observed a highly successful person and wondered how on earth they got to be where they are? If so, you’re not alone. If you’re like most people, you have probably observed a successful person from afar, but probably haven’t experienced what true success feels like.
What many people fail to realize, is that every successful person has something in common that gets them started, and it is this one thing that sets them apart from almost everyone around them. And by just knowing this one thing and applying it in the right way, you too can experience the same wonderful feeling of success!
The one thing these successful people have to start off with, is a goal.
Setting strategic goals is one of the major keys to success. It is without a goal, that many people live their life aimlessly, never really achieving anything. And this is because they have nothing to aim for - they do not have a goal.
Just having a wish or a dream to do something is a start, but will rarely materialize unless you have a plan of action.
Your plan of action starts with the setting of a strategic goal, but in order to improve your chances of succeeding at achieving this goal, then it should be a “SMART” goal, as follows:
Specific - What exactly is it that you want to achieve?
Measurable - How will you know that you have achieved your goal? Also, how will you measure your progress?
Achievable/Attainable – Is the achievement of your goal humanly possible?
Realistic/Relevant – are your goals in line with your personal vision? Also, are you in a position to be able to work towards and achieve this goal?
Timely - your goal should always have a timeframe attached to it. When do you want to achieve your goal by? Setting a timeframe is your goal a sense of urgency which is one of the keys to successfully achieving a goal.
Once you have decided on your SMART goal, it is now time to write it down. Putting pen to paper seems to give your goal much more power.
Now that you have written your goal down, is now time to put a plan in place in order to achieve your goal.
In order to move forward, it is important to establish where you are now so that you can track your progress as you work towards your goal. So what is your current reality? Also, what options are available to you with regard to achieving your goal? What strategies or actions will you need to put in place in order to get to where you want to go?
Write down what you need to do each step of the way, in order to achieve your goal. These can become your “mini goals”, which you can tick off as you complete each step.
Another consideration is the obstacles you may face on the way. How will you deal with these obstacles? What if you face a major setback?
What happens with many people is that after a major setback, they tend to give up. They begin to doubt themselves and therefore their goals on the backburner.
Just remember, that every single successful person out there has faced at least one major obstacle or setback, but what has made them stand out from the rest is that they never gave up. If they made mistakes, they learn from them and moved forward, but they never lost their focus of their goals.
Setting strategic goals is something every person wanting to achieve success should do. Without a goal, you will not know where you are headed.

It is possible to balance your life and career in just a few easy steps, once you know what these steps are. Balancing your life and career is all about working out what is most important to you, and allowing you to live in a way that is in line with what is most important to you.
All too often we tend to put too much emphasis on our career, and not enough on our personal lives, and we find that our personal relationships suffer, as do our energy levels! This is typical of many people and it is usually in contradiction to what they actually want.
We want more time in our lives to do what we want to do, however it usually works out that we are working on our career much more than we are living our lives.
To balance your life and career in just a few easy steps, you first need to identify what it is you want. What do you want to achieve in your personal life versus your career? What is your life purpose? How does this work in with your life and career balance right now?
How much time do you need to dedicate to your personal life and to your career? How much time do you want to dedicate your personal life versus your career? Work out the difference, and identify what is creating this difference.
If you are like most people, then you are spending a lot more time on your career than you are on your life. If this is the case, what can you do which will allow you to spend less time working and more time living?
Why are you spending more time on your career then you want to, and what can you do to counteract the imbalance you are experiencing?
There is nearly always a solution to every problem, and now it is time to get creative about how you can create more time to enjoy your life.
Developing a plan of action is the first step to achieving balance in your life and career, and begins with the following:
Identify why it is that you are unable to achieve balance in your life and career.
Write down why you want to achieve balance in your life and your career. This is important, as it helps you to maintain the motivation you need to achieve the balance you want.
Work out whether any of these things are within or are out of your control.
For those that are out of your control, identify whether you can handle them in a different way, or delegate them to someone else. For those that are within your control, how can you better handle them in order to allow you more time to live your life? Sometimes, achieving balance in your life and career is more about being more organized, than about cutting back in one area or another. Be honest with yourself here and really consider what can be done differently to allow you to achieve the balance you want.
Realize that you are not a superhero, nor do you have magical powers! You are only one person, and you deserve the opportunity to be able to balance your life with your career and live a life that is rewarding and fulfilling.
So now you know how to balance your life and career in just a few easy steps, and it should be pretty clear that in order to achieve this balance you must first work out what it is you want, identify your obstacles, and finally overcome these obstacles with the realization that you deserve to live your life the way you choose.

How can you be a success at everything? Have you ever come across someone who seems to succeed, no matter what they do? It is kind of like luck follows them wherever they go. But what is interesting about someone who seems to succeed at everything, is that they don’t think they are doing anything special - this is because they know the secret to success and you will too!
You only have to observe successful people around you to realize that underneath all of that success, they are really just like you and me. But they do have something that many people don’t - and that it is an unwavering belief that they will achieve their goals.
That’s not to say that they haven’t failed or experienced setbacks at any time in their life, because they have probably experienced more than most people. This is because they are more prepared to get out there and try their hand at what ever it is to get them to where they want to be. They learn from their mistakes, brush themselves off and try again.
In every case, they will have a specific goal that they want to achieve, and remain totally committed and focused on that goal until they achieve it.
So what is the secret to being a success at everything?
Keep reading, and you will get a very good insight into what each and every successful person does in order to succeed in whatever they do:
They set goals
Having a goal is an important aspect of becoming a success. How will you know where you are headed, and how will you know if you’ve got there, if you haven’t got a goal?
Setting a goal is the first thing you should do if you want to succeed. Write a goal down and be as specific as possible, and add a timeline to your goal to create a sense of urgency as that date nears.
They plan
Once you have your goal written down, it is time to plan not only how you will achieve your goal, but also how you will deal with any obstacles or setbacks that may get in your way. Obstacles and setbacks happen no matter how successful you are, so it is important to plan how you are going to get around them.
You may also break your goal into smaller goals which form your main goal. For example, your goal might be to travel to a certain country. So your first smaller goal may be to head to a travel agent to pick up some brochures. Your next goal might be to get yourself a passport, and so on.
Take action!
Taking action is probably the most important aspect of being a success in everything you do. It is all well and good to have some fantastic goals, but without taking action, you might as well have not bothered.
All too often people expect success to fall in their laps, and they are soon disappointed as they realize that it is just not that easy.
Taking action is also the most difficult step for most people. This is usually because when you have a goal to achieve, it is normally going to take you out of your comfort zone. For many people this is quite a scary realization.
So if you want to be a success at everything you do, work out what it is, write it down, work out a plan and then take action. Very soon you will become one of those people you used to think was so different to yourself. They had to start somewhere, and so can you.
Building the Ideal Career

Building the ideal career begins with you identifying what it is you really want to do with your life in the long term. No matter what you want to do, there are steps you need to put in place first, to help you get to where you want to be.
To build the ideal career, you need to have a plan in place, and it is also important to really think about other aspects of your career choice, such as the following:
1. Your personal values
It is important when deciding on the ideal career for yourself, that you identify your personal values. The reason for this is because your personal values play an important part in your entire life, and if you were to decide on a career that is a direct contradiction to your personal values, then it is highly likely you would not see the results you are hoping for.
For example, if spending a lot time with your family is high on your list of personal values, then choosing a career that would take you away from your family for long periods of time would be in direct contradiction with those values. In fact, you would very quickly realize that having a career such as the one you have chosen, is probably not the right one for you.
So in other words, your career must fit in with your personal values and allow you to balance your work and family life based on these values.
2. Your current skills
Next, you may want to look at your current skills. Do you currently have the required skills for your chosen career? If not, are you prepared to get out there and learn these skills?
How much time will it take you to learn these skills, and are you prepared to put in this amount of time?
3. Your personality
Some personalities suit certain careers better than others. For example, if you are thinking about going into sales, then the ideal personality type would be one of an extrovert as opposed to an introvert who is not comfortable getting out there and selling.
4. Your interests
Obviously, if you pick a career that is in line with your interests, then it is likely you are going to enjoy doing what you do. For example, a person who loves animals may benefit from a career working with animals. On the other hand, you might be interested in working on projects, so would benefit by working as a project manager or business analyst or similar.
Regardless of what you do, especially if you require some additional training to get started, when building the ideal career you need to consider that you will be doing this for a very long time to come, so it is important you pick one that you truly believe you will enjoy.
Once you have decided on an ideal career, it is now time to plan how you are going to get there. The following steps to building the ideal career will get you started:
· Write down what it is you want to do (what is your career choice?)
· Establish where you are now - write down your current skills, knowledge and other attributes that will contribute to your chosen career. Also write down the skills, knowledge and other attributes you require in order to excel in your career.
· Decide on how you are going to get your skills and knowledge up to the level you require in order to excel in your chosen career.
· Get out there and do it!
Building the ideal career starts with the decision about what you want to do. Most importantly however, is the action you take once you have made this decision. Before long, you will be well on your way to achieving your career goals.
